1 to 3 Days After the Surgery
Patients typically gain consciousness with a big wrap on their heads. Moderate pain may be experienced, but it can be lessened with pain killers. The pain will peak around 2 days after the procedure.
Swelling and bruising of the neck and face may also reach its peak 48 hours after the surgery. Iced compresses should be ready for these areas, once the initial dressing is removed.
Patients can already walk slowly and gradually. At times, they may need a caregiver’s assistant to roam around since weakness and grogginess may still persist.
By the third day, a follow up consultation with the surgeon is highly recommended. The drains will be removed, and he or she will also check the presence of hematoma.
The patient should rest upright at daytime. At night, they should sleep on their pillows.
A Week After the Surgery
In some cases, you will be advised to use compression garments for 14 days.
By this time, all the swelling and pain will start to decline, and stitches removed. However, it’s normal to feel certain tightness around the neck and face.
2 Weeks After the Surgery
Bruising and swelling around the upper chest, face and neck will decline even more.
There will be tightness, tingling, numbness and burning near the neck and ears. You don’t need to worry, though. All of these are normal.
Those patients who underwent limited surgery are already allowed to resume their usual exercise routine. However, they need to limit exertion, just in case swelling occurs.
Weeks 3 and 4 After the Surgery
Swelling will significantly decrease. Moreover, the look of the incisions will begin to improve.
The tightness, and swelling may remain. By the fourth week, you’ll already feel confident and comfortable attending events with full makeup.
Weeks 5 and 6 After the Surgery
Your doctor may allow you to resume your usual activities, even vigorous workouts. Your bruising and swelling will also disappear.
More Guidelines for a Faster Facelift Recovery
- Make sure to follow your physician’s instructions
- Go to all post-surgery appointments
- Drink lots of water
- Don’t take medications such as ibuprofen and aspirin
- Use anti-bruising creams and Arnica pills
- Use scar creams on incisions, once cleared by your surgeon
- Wear bandages, wraps or compression garments
- Eat healthy foods that are easy to chew
- Put sunscreen on the surgical area and incisions
- Get plenty of rest and sleep
- Do not take narcotics on an empty stomach
After a major surgery, give your body a chance to recover. If you can, take a break from work, or just do your tasks at home. Most importantly, if certain issues arise, discuss it immediately with your surgeon.
